Rank Aspire Programme

The Rank Foundation’s vision is to contribute to a society that values young leaders and the Aspire Programme invests in those who may have fewer opportunities to prosper.   The aim of the programme is to increase young people’s social mobility through supporting access to training and employment opportunities in the social sector and beyond, and through this to increase their potential for future employment and success.

The programme offers a living wage for 12 months to a young person on a work placement based in a project within the Rank Foundation network.  A further training bursary of £1200 is provided to support the young leaders’ development.  Rank meet with the leaders three times a year on residential based programmes.   Each cohort starts in September to align with the academic calendar.

Young leaders participating in the programme are selected using the following criteria:

  • Aged 18 to 24, having left school and in transition to further education or employment

  • Demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to social change

  • Coming from areas of social and economic disadvantage, disadvantaged backgrounds or personal circumstances, and who may face barriers to social mobility.

Aim of the Partnership

The Rank Foundation and Catalyst for Impact are co-funding a pilot of the Rank Aspire Programme within a place-based context, namely Dundee and for an extended period of 24 months. In April 2015 and following 18 months of reconnaissance work, Rank launched an invigorating place-based programme in Dundee (Dundee – The Rank Foundation). Hosting a small cohort of Aspire leaders year on year where Rank have a strong community foothold should catalyse new opportunities for learning, sharing and growth – both for the individuals taking part and also the local projects and wider community.  The young leaders are placed within an existing and growing network of social sector projects and leaders, giving them access to local influencers and decision-makers. In turn, the young leaders will bring new insights, energy and skills into the place-based programme.

The 4 projects in Dundee who are hosting an Aspire leader for 2 years from September 2021 are:
